Drama Llamas holiday celebration

The Fort Mill 4-H Drama Llama SPIN Club play with Christmas crackers with club leader Nanette Johnson, second from left, during their December meeting.

FORT MILL In the December Drama Llama meeting we had more of a free day and got to learn about Christmas crackers with Nanette Johnson. Christmas crackers originated in London in the mid-1840s by Tom Smith, inspired by French “bonbon” sweets wrapped in paper. If you don’t know how to play, you usually play with two people, but it can most likely be however many you want. One person grabs one end and the other grabs the opposite end, then on the count of three, they both pull and whoever’s side has the center chamber wins.

After that Ms. Johnson taught us about different character archetypes–mother, child, crone, trickster, hero, devil–and we learned how to act like them. We then performed a small skit with those roles. We got into pairs of three and picked an audience reaction card that said either “yay”, “boo”, or “aww” and we had to pick a role that matched the cards’ word. For example I chose mother and had the “aww” card, and then had to act out my lines in that role.

In January the Drama Llamas plan to work on character development and script writing.
