Hotshots Host Families for Friendly Shoot-Out

CHERRYVILLE, NC The York County 4-H Hotshots Competition Team hosted their first in-team competition Saturday, January 4 at the Foothills Public Shooting Complex in Cleveland County, North Carolina. The Hotshots team consists of twelve student athletes who compete in four different disciplines of competitive shotgun shooting that include trap, skeet, sporting clays and super sporting. Every member of the team is also a part of the York County 4-H Natural Resources Club, which educates students on various things from hunting, fishing, and wildlife to boating safety.

The informal competition gave new athletes an opportunity to practice their skills in a smaller setting before competing in the statewide and national competitions.

Five individual divisions of the competition consisted of a Novice, 1st Year, Advanced, Parents/Coaches/Adults, and a Club Competition based on age. Some members of only the Natural Resources Club also participated in this event.

There were two Team Divisions, which consisted of a family pair competition, and a newer athlete or club member with a varsity team member competition.

The event raised around $300 for the team.

Everyone at the competition not only performed very well but also appeared to have a fantastic time. The club provided hot dogs, chips and drinks for everyone to enjoy.

The Family Competition gave family members a chance to connect through the sport. There were sibling teams, grandparents and grandchildren teams, and of course parent and kid teams. It was incredible to watch student athletes bond with their family members by coaching them to success.
